A major upset occurred in the first round of quarterfinal matches at the 2010 Australian Open held in Melbourne on Tuesday.
Defending Champion Rafael Nadal made an early retirement from his highly aniticipated match against Britain’s Andy Murray not qualifying for the semi finals.
Nadal was down two sets to the number four but retired in the third due to a knee injury losing 6-3, 7-6 (2), 3-0.
Murray will play Marin Cillic in the first semi of the 2010 Australian Open.
First to qualify for the day was Belgian comeback queen Justine Henin winning in straight sets over Russian powerhouse Nadia Petrova at the Rod Laver Arena.
The first set was taken to a tie-break with the un-seeded Henin winning 7-6(3) and took the second set 7-5 to make it through to the 2010 Australian Open semi-finals.
Chinese Jie Zheng beat Maria Kirilenko in her quarterfinal match of the 2010 Australian Open in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.
Zheng is the first Chinese woman to reach a semi final at the tournament.
Elsewhere seventh seed Andy Roddick was knocked out by young star Marin Cilic in the 2010 Australian Open.
Roddick was suffering from a shoulder injury although took the match to five sets with the 21 year-old claiming the semi-final spot 7-6(4), 6-3, 3-6, 2-6, 6-3.
