The 2010 Australian Open culled another mound of players as the second round ended on Thursday with Prince William overseeing the proceedings in Melbourne.
First to win at the Rod Laver Arena was world number three Novak Djokovic dominating in straight sets, as did men’s favourite for the title Roger Federer and Nikolay Davydenko, all progressing to the next round of the 2010 Australian Open.
Marcos Baghdatis had a harder time in his draw against David Ferrer but came out on top winning 4-6, 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-3, 6-1.
In front of his home crowd, Lleyton Hewitt went through to the third round of the 2010 Australian Open winning in straight sets, although was forced to a tie-break in the first against America’s Donald Young.
Hewitt was one of three Aussie’s who took to the Rod Laver Arena on Thursday, all of them doing the nation proud, advancing to the next round of the 2010 Australian Open.
Samantha Stosur was the first winning in straight sets over German Kristina Barrois 7-5, 6-3.
Finishing off the day’s matches was fellow Aussie Casey Dellacquai who had a tough fight against Karolina Sprem, taking both sets to tie-breaks, but beat the Croat 7-6(4), 7-6(6).
Elsewhere in the women’s campaign sister Serena Williams and Venus Williams both won in straight sets to grab spots in the 2010 Australian Open.
