One of the best Sports:

Tennis has increasingly been grouped with the best sports of the world. By best it would deem the sport that is watched world wide, that is eagerly awaited and has the highest levels of bets. The fame and popularity of a sport is best checked by the number of fans it has, and tennis can boast of millions of fans around the world that have brought it onto the level it is now. The Grand Slams are the highest level of tennis today, the four titles portraying in the real terms what tennis means to the fans. One of these titles is the Australian open that is a matter of pride for the Australians all around the world, out of which many place bets on the matches being played and win millions of dollars every year. Especially with the advent of online betting, every punter is resorting to the cyber space for making a quick buck.

Tennis and its History:

The earliest history of tennis can be traced back to the 12th century in France. There are some proofs of the game being played or introduced by the Monks of that time, and an earlier version known as the Real Tennis. Historian interested in Tennis have found out that it was first played by hand, later gloves, but and then racquets were introduced.

The modern version of the game started in the 19th century. From the 12th to the nineteenth century the game had flourished and then practically vanished. The modern version was the birth of a changed game but as additions. First in Birmingham and later in Wales, it was introduced or invented by a Solicitor and his friend first in 1859 or after, combining two older games to come up with this. In Wales on the other hand some years later Major Walter Clopton edited the game of Real Tennis to come up with Lawn Tennis. Not only did he borrow the game from France he also took all the terms from that language too, where Tennis came from Tenez which meant to hold, Deuce means equal etc. Once the rules were formed for the formal game it quickly gained fame in and around England and other European countries. It reached America one year later and was readily taken up by the general public as it was in Australia and Switzerland and other nations.

Playing Tennis:

This is one of the games that can be played indoors as well as outdoors. What one needs to play the game is a field or a court, a racquet, a ball and a net, teamed up with a lot of talent and skill. The court is rectangular in shape with different sizes for singles and doubles play. This is a game that can be played with two or four players but not more than that. The one played with just two competitors is termed as a single while the four player game is a double with two players to each side. The middle of the court is set up with the net over which the ball has to pass for the play. The two/four players stand at opposite ends, with the play beginning with a serve. The serve has to be legal, which means it has to go over the net without touching it, this would start the rallying, which means the two players pass the ball to and fro until one commits a fault which would give the opponent the point.

A tennis match is made up of sets; the sets in turn consist of games, the major international events especially the Grand Slams consist of 7 sets to the maximum with the player winning the first 3 gets the match. The player has to win at least two games more than his opponent to win the set, so the games could be of any number especially if the competition is good. The games are further divided into points, there are four points to one game and a player has to score the four points ahead of the opponent. When both the players are good one game could go on for very long as they would both be determined to outdo the other.

Grand Slams:

When tennis became a very famous game which was being enjoyed by most of the population of many countries, there came a need for some major tournaments that could test the mettle of the top stars in this sports industry. This need was fulfilled by four such tournaments that have achieved the highest level of success since their inception. They are the Wimbledon in England the British title, followed by the American Event going by the name of US open and then the French open. Finally we have the Australian open tournament that has become one of the highest slots of sports in Australia and for Australians.
